Alimochaos

rumba

More information

Alimochaos is a musical project led by Xavi and Uri, two 27-year-old young men who, with hardly any musical background, connected spontaneously with rumba in its most visceral form. From that moment on, they discovered that the stories they wanted to tell —their everyday life, their experiences, their identity— took shape and gained strength through this music.

Although rumba is the guiding thread, their sound incorporates influences from flamenco, Cuban son, soul, and blues, creating a fresh and approachable blend. Their proposal does not seek virtuosity or technical perfection, but sincerity, connection with the audience, and the transmission of a shared emotion. It is music for the neighbor, for the neighborhood, for home.

Alimochaos was not born to play covers, although they enjoy performing songs by others. Their goal is to tell their story, share their identity, and bring their music to anyone who has lived a similar life experience. With humility and honesty, they aim to make rumba a direct and close channel of communication.

Our music is born of blending, of mutual respect, of the desire to share and coexist; it originates precisely in the working-class districts of the Barcelona metropolitan area, where a diversity of identities has coexisted, lived together and mingled for decades. This music doesn't seek to offer answers, but rather to open up questions, generate debate and make people think, unless that poses a threat to anyone. Defending who we are isn't about imposing ourselves; it's about finding a way for everything to work and evolve for the better, collectively. As we say amongst beers and laughter, our identity is the Metropolitan Rumba.

This Metropolitan Rumba is an attitude, a way of understanding coexistence in the neighbourhoods, in blocks of flats, in schools and at workplaces; it is reconciliation between different people, ideologies, customs and origins, without renouncing one's own identity. It's what happens when you sit at a bar table with Gypsies, lads, immigrants, poshos, workers, alternative types… and you feel like you're part of the family.

It's resistance within the city, where identity is often diluted by tourism, posturing and the frenetic pace. Not only that, but it's knowing how your neighbours are doing and greeting them when you pass by.
